Carter has developed its Slowed Rotor/Compound (SR/C™) technology as an alternative to conventional vertical lift. While the acoustic and drag benefits of slowing a rotor in cruise flight are well understood, Carter had to solve 10 challenges to make SR/C™ aircraft a reality (more info). Runway independent aircraft that possess efficiencies more akin to fixed-wing aircraft promise to deliver a cleaner, greener, and safer VTOL capability with a fraction of helicopter complexity. CarterCopters with jump takeoff capability deliver 3 times the cruise efficiency of helicopters at a fraction of the acquisition and operating costs.
With a 2000 HP gas turbine engine and a fully pressurized cabin, the aircraft will carry 2 pilots and 4 passengers at a top speed over 300 kts with a 2260 nm range, with an option for higher passenger capacities.
This configuration makes an ideal VTOL Business Jet that could provide point to point transportation for up to 6 passengers and cruise at 300+ kts for up to 2,000 nm. A specially equipped variant with larger engines could dramatically shatter existing rotorcraft records with a top speed of 450+ kts.
